The Effects of Parental Incarceration on Children

Hi Folks:

We held a press conference last Thursday to announce the new report, The Effects of Parental Incarceration on Children: Needs and Responsive Services.  Many members of the Advisory Committee and the Joint State Government Commission staff were able to join us and I want to thank everyone who attended and assisted in this effort. Sen. Greenleaf and Rep. Parker, the original sponsors of the resolutions calling for the study, spoke as did Mayor Nutter; Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler whose father served time; and a number of others.

We had press coverage statewide including radio, TV, and newspapers (special thanks to Claire Walker for coordinating the Pittsburgh/ Western PA effort) and an impressive audience.  I am sending several article links listed below for your information.  Also attached are factsheets drafted by Kathleen Creamer.

As we promote the report and especially the recommendations, we will announce other events and updates. One event now scheduled is set for Tuesday, March 6^th at 10:00 am in the Capitol in Harrisburg. We will be officially presenting the report to the Senate Judiciary Committee and hope you can join us.

Please let us know if there are meetings or events in your area or your shop where we can present and discuss the report and recommendations.  We would like to disseminate the information across the state to generate more interest and visibility on these issues.
