Dear Mr. Shipman,
The Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC) will host its annual Clean Block Contest on September 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th and October 1st to determine the top four winning blocks for the 2009 cleaning season. The blocks in the contest will be judged for the efforts of its block residents, cleanliness, beautification efforts, and property improvements.
Streets Commissioner Clarena Tolson would like to invite you to be a judge during the contest. The orientation for each day will be from 9:00 am to 9:30 am. The judging day will start at 9:30 am and end at approximately 3:00 pm. It is not necessary for you to stay the entire day.
PMBC, part of the Streets Department’s Sanitation Division, is designed to motivate and engage Philadelphia residents to improve the quality of life in Philadelphia neighborhoods. Our specific goals are to organize, educate and encourage volunteerism. The result is a cleaner, healthier and more caring environment. With this in mind, the annual Clean Block Contest was instituted. Block Captains and residents are recognized for their diligent work and beautification achievements completed throughout the year.
The residents who participate in the clean block program are the people who make a difference. These hard-working residents – like all of us – appreciate acknowledgement for a job well done. Your participation will support their untiring efforts.
The top four winners of the contest will be announced at the annual dinner banquet on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Penn’s Landing Caterers.
We hope you join us by selecting a date(s) to participate. If available, please contact me in our Planning and Public Affairs Office at 215-686-5088 by Friday, September 11.
